Visakhapatnam: Writer Mark Twain had said there are two types of speakers in the world-the nervous and liars- leave liars aside as they chose to be the ones, but what about the nervous type who really struggle to speak their minds.

Believing that the art of structuring a message and delivering it with ease will surely empower the nervous people to defend their viewpoints and principles for building a better world, said Koka Prasad, an award-winning public speaker, who set up Visakha Orators Club, first of its kind in the city.

In a bid to learn the craft of packaging a perfect message felt by their hearts and minds, rain or shine, a group of 30 people from all walks of life congregate in a room every week at 5 pm on on Saturday at Dr L Bullaya College in the city.

The Visakha Orators Club is instrumental in nurturing public speaking and leadership skills among students, women and working professionals through its well-structured meetings in the City of Destiny.

Prasad, who worked as an engineer for 25 years in Middle Eastern Countries, strongly feel conveying a message with accuracy would usher in positive change in life. Interestingly, every meet of Visakha Orators starts with a sentence – A journey of a thousand miles begins with your first speech.

“It’s been a year since we started Visakha Orators Club and had organised more than 50 meetings with 30 active members of all age groups. Moreover, growing numbers of public speaking aspirants reaching us has motivated the club to keep going,” he shares.

As the founders say, Visakha Orators is the first club in Asia to be affiliated to Agora Speakers International (Spain), a non-profit worldwide organisation, dedicated to honing communication and leadership skills.

Moreover, the club president Prasad is determined to bring famous Tedx Talk sessions to the city and for that he has been chalking out strategies.
Speaking to The Hans India, B Tech student Sandeep, says that being part of the club has made a difference in his life as he shied away to interact with new people, friends and even family members.

“The sessions here improved my morale and now I feel confident to start a conversation with anyone. Never imagined in my life, this kind of transformation,” Sandeep with a beaming face told his own story.

As most people experience some level of speech anxiety when they have to speak in front of a group, in fact, public speaking is many people’s greatest fear. If you are looking for a friendly group to help you out with speech anxiety, then become a member of Visakha Orators Club.
