Srikakulam: In the wake of proposed agitation by all parties and unions against illegal methods adopted by the government towards Vamsadhara project evacuees on Tuesday, the police made preventive arrests across the district on Monday.

CPI, CPM, CPI (ML-ND), AP Rythu Kooli Sangham, AP Rythu Sangham and other organisations called for massive agitation by protesting government’s forcible methods against the Vamsadhara displaced people though they sacrificed their lands and houses.

Top leaders of all parties and organisations are expected to reach Hiramandal mandal on Tuesday morning to participate in the agitation. In this backdrop police arrested CPM leaders, Chowdari Tejeswara Rao, K Narayana Rao and CPI leaders, Chapara Sundar Lal, Nagamani, Manmadha Rao and Rythu Kooli Sangham leader Thandra Aruna.

Police also held Human Rights Forum (HRF) vice-president KV Jagannadha Rao along with left party leaders though he had not been involved in agitations earlier against Vamsadhara. But the HRF filed PIL against Vamsadhara in the High Court recently in which the court rapped district officials against displaced people.

The arrested leaders were shifted to various police stations across the district. YSRCP district president Reddy Shanthi, party senior leaders Tammineni Sitaram, Dharmana Prasada Rao flayed arrests who are fighting for the cause of farmers and displaced people.
