Mylavaram: Head of the department of Legal Studies and Research of Acharya Nagarjuna University L Jayasri on Saturday sensitised Lakireddy Bali Reddy College of Engineering’s Saheli Girls’ Club members on various statues meant for women.

Speaking on “Constitutional rights of women,” the resource person Jayasri sensitised the members on the National Commission for Women, Dowry Prohibition Act, Domestic Violence (Prohibition) Act, Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at work places, trafficking against women, legislations preventing sex determination and abortions, Minimum Wages Act, right to compulsory education of women and 33 per cent quota for women in local bodies.

She also dealt with the preamble to the Indian Constitution, Fundamental rights, fundamental duties and directive principles of state policy, Articles 36 and 226 and other aspects.

Dr M Uma Vani, convener of the Saheli, delivered the welcome address and the College Principal Dr K Appa Rao also spoke. Towards the end, Jayasri clarified the doubts of women on various legal aspects. Later, Dr Uma Vani presented a memento to Jayasri. Over 1,000 girl students of the college attended the programme. G Tabita and R Vijaya officiated as programme coordinators.
