Nellore: Tension prevailed for some time at Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) as a student tried to jump from the top of the administrative building at the varsity campus located in Kakutur here on Monday demanding to provide admission into PG course for the second degree.

  • The High Court had directed the officials to provide the seat on Aug 23 and orders were issued on Aug 31
  • The authorities allegedly delayed in providing the PG seats to the students
  • Prof M Chandraiah, Registrar of the varsity, says the Varsity PG Admissions Committee had taken a decision not to admit students for the second PG and hence the appeals were denied

Even though he had obtained clearance from the High Court on Aug 23 the varsity authorities failed to provide a PG seat to the student which made him to stage the protest. After seven hours of hullaballoo, the varsity authorities finally assured to consider the case and the student withdrew his protest by getting down from the building.

According to K.Gangi Reddy, he had completed his first post-graduation degree in Tourism Management from the Vikrama Simhapuri University during 2015-17. Though Gangi Reddy along with another student Ramana applied for pursuing PG degree for the second time for Masters in Social Work for 2017-19, the varsity authorities refused reiterating policy of the varsity that will not allow them to do so.

With this the duo approached the High Court and obtained directions on August 23 and they practically received orders on Aug 31. The duo subsequently handed over a memorandum to the VSU Registrar Prof M.Chandraiah on the very next day showing directions of the HC for providing the second PG admission.

The High Court also clearly mentioned about providing seat in the varsity without any further delay. But, the authorities allegedly delayed in providing the PG seats to the students. They again appealed to the varsity authorities to allocate the seats according to the directions of the Court. But, authorities denied even after classes of PG courses were already commenced in the varsity.

Finally, Gangi Reddy decided to jump from the top of the building accusing varsity authorities who failed to provide admission and on Monday he climbed the building at about 8.30 am and tried to jump from there.

Meanwhile, other students who were present at the varsity on Monday alleged that varsity Registrar Chandraiah had wilfully neglected to provide the seats to Gangi Reddy and Ramana. Venkatachalam police rushed to the spot and tried to convince Gangi Reddy.

At around 3.30 pm Gangi Reddy got down from the building with the assurance of the Venkatachalam police and also varsity authorities. At the time of writing, the negotiations are still going on.

‘Though I had made several appeals to the varsity authorities showing directions of the High Court they denied the seat. They had wilfully neglected the admissions to us. We have lost classes for almost one and half month till now,’ said K.Gangi Reddy.

Prof M Chandraiah, Registrar of the varsity, said the Varsity PG Admissions Committee had taken a decision not to admit students for the second PG and hence the appeals were denied. He also said they had received interim order of the High Court and the certificates were sent for examinations to other varsities. He said they would send reply to the High Court responding to the directions.
