Kurnool: Incessant rains lashed in several parts of the district from Monday midnight and continued till Tuesday morning. Majority mandals in the district have received rains. The rains have paralyzed normal life in the district. The Handri river which was totally dried up for the last 8 years was in spate following heavy downpour and rains in upper streams.

Several colonies in Kallur mandal have submerged as Handri river and Vakkeru canal were overflowing. Floodwater entered the houses of 500 families at Chenchu Nagar in Kallur mandal. They blamed the district officials for their pathetic condition. The residents alleged that no government official has alerted them of the flood situation or even taken up relief measures.

The police have rescued six persons, who were stuck in the middle of Remaduru lake in Orvakal mandal. All the lakes and streams were full to the brim in Orvakal mandal following heavy rains. Hundreds of acres were submerged as water from Junuthala lake in Banaganapalle mandal has developed a breach.

Transportation for Bengaluru, Mantralayam and Bellary in Karnataka was disrupted as bridge built on the Chinna Hulthi lake in Pathikonda constituency has washed away. Even, Kundu river also disrupted the transportation between Nandyal and Nandikotkur. Floodwater has entered into the houses at Kunakuntla village in Owk mandal.

Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy spoke to District Collector S Satyanarayana over phone and enquired about flood situation in the district. He directed the Collector to alert the villages dwelling under Gajuladinne Project. Satyanarayana inspected Road under Bridge at Anand Cine Complex as it was inundated.
