Amaravati: Minister for excise K S Jawahar and minister for rural housing Kalava Srinivasulu came down heavily on YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for his comments on Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh asking questioning his silence on the subject for the last nine months.

  • Question Opposition leader’s silence for the last nine months on the subject
  • Demands him to make his MPs resign before he talks about Special Category
  • Refutes allegations that investments are not coming to the state, assert that industries are coming and jobs are being created in a big way

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat after TDP coordination committee meeting on Tuesday, Jawahar said Jaganmohan Reddy was trying to mislead people by conducting ‘Yuvabheri’ in which he criticised the state government for abandoning the SCS issue. He said Jagan announced in the past that his party MPs would resign for the cause of SCS, but he was silent for nine months.

“Jagna abandoned the SCS issue seeking favour from the Union government in his corruption cases. He also supported NDA in President elections to prove his obedience to the NDA. Now, after nine months, he is questioning the state government one the SCS,” the minister said. He said Jagan was creating confusion among people on his proposed Padayatra as he was not confident that he would get permission from the court for exemption from regular appearance in illegal investment cases.

Kalava Srinivasulu said there was no sincerity in Jaganmohan Reddy’s comments that more industries would have come to AP if it was given the Special Category Status. The minister said several big corporate houses were coming to the state to set up industries and employment was also being generated in a big way. “Due to the efforts of the state government, lakhs of jobs have been created in the state. But, industrialists left the state and some of them had to go to jail because of corruption of YS Jagan during regime of YS Rajasekhar Reddy,” he said.

Srinivasulu said the state government had agreed to Centre’s proposal on Special Package with the clear assurances from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. “State will get benefit with Special Package as it is better than the SCS. The Centre agreed to give more funds to developmental works and promised subsidies for industries,” he said.

Alleging that Jaganmohan Reddy was against the development of the state and creating hurdles for construction of capital city, the minister said he should have realised how people were viewing his party and him at least even after the outcome of Nandyal byelection and Kakinada municipal elections.
