Visakhapatnam: Around 250 petrol bunks in the city and district will shut down their operations for a day beginning October 12 midnight. The owners are going ahead with the closure despite threats from the oil companies.

They will be participating in the ‘no purchase, no sales’ nationwide protest called by petroleum dealers of public sector oil companies on October 13. The petrol bunk owners in Vizag city that they will shut down the fuel pumps form October 12 midnight to October 13 midnight to press for various demands including better margins and inclusion of petroleum products in the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, president of Vizag Petrol Dealers Association, M Narayana Reddy said that some sales officers of the oil companies have threatened the dealers in the city not to take part in the nationwide strike.

However, they had decided to observe one-day bandh on October 13. The fuel prices in Andhra Pradesh are higher than the neighbouring states due to various taxes and the decision to keep petrol and diesel out of GST, Reddy explained, had resulted in a huge disparity in the price of the fuels between the States.
