Tirupati: In a significant development, District Collector PS Pradyumna has agreed to allot 25 acres to APSRTC on the outskirts of the pilgrim city. This will help to decongest the traffic in the city and existing bus stand. At present, RTC Central Bus Station in Tirupati has 64 platforms in 12 acres. The RTC officials are finding it difficult to provide amenities for 1.75 lakh passengers, who travel daily through Tirupati Bus Station.

  • Collector agrees to allocate 25 acres on the outskirts of pilgrim city
  • RTC officials proposed to run long distance services from new bus stand
  • Existing bus stand will be limited to Tirumala, city and mofussil routes

More number of buses are being introduced to clear passenger rush but there is no possibility to construct additional platforms in the existing bus stand. Apart from meeting the present requirements, keeping in view of the future needs for the next 50 years, the RTC felt that there is a need to construct a big RTC complex.

As there is no scope to acquire additional land at the existing bus stand, the RTC authorities have wrote to the District Collector to allot 30 acres of land on the outskirts of the city, preferably on the 150 ft bypass road. As part of the smart city initiative of the government, the Collector is considering a proposal to allot 1,000 acres to TUDA towards land banking.

A final decision will be taken on October 17 in this regard. Pradyumna also discussed with RTC officials on Monday about their requirement. During the discussion, it was proposed to give 25 acres to the RTC for construction of a new bus station on the outskirts. Once it is materialised, the RTC authorities will plan the rest of the things. APSRTC Regional Manager V Naga Sivudu told The Hans India that the idea is to operate long distance services from the new bus station.

City services will be operated from the present bus station. The existing bus station can be used for Tirumala and mofussil routes. Tirumala pilgrims are increasing from time to time and it will be useful for them. This will decongest the traffic in the city, he maintained.

Already, an international consultancy has submitted its report of making existing RTC bus stand as world class one. To get smart city tag for Tirupati, the government is keen to modernise bus complex in Tirupati. It has to be seen whether the integrated complex will be taken up at the existing bus stand or proposed place.
