Visakhapatnam: The Vizag unit of CBI registered a disproportionate assets case against Indian Forest Service officer M Ram Prasad Rao, who also worked as chief vigilance officer of NTPC.

  • Searches conducted at the residential and office premises of the IFS officer M Ram Prasad Rao in Meerut, UP and Tanuku in WG district
  • Several property and incriminating documents and Rs 37.25 lakh seized
  • The tainted official has earlier worked as the chief vigilance officer of NTPC

A CBI release on Wednesday said Ram Prasad Rao (IFS officer of 1986 batch UP cadre), while working as chief vigilance officer of NTPC from February 2013 to July 9, 2016 acquired moveable and immoveable assets in his name and in the names of his family members to the tune of
Rs 10.72 crore approximately, which are disproportionate to his known sources of income.

This case was registered under Sectoin-109 of IPC and Section 13(2) read with 13(1) (e) of PC Act, 1988 against him and others. After registration of the case, searches were conducted at the residential and office premises of the accused and his family members at Meerut, UP and Tanuku in West Godavari district. During the course of searches, several property and incriminating documents and cash of Rs 37.25 lakh were seized.
