Vijayawada: Controversial director Ram Gopal Varma’s new project on NTR’s life has run into rough weather ever since he announced the biopic “Lakshmi’s NTR” with the TDP cadre closely watching his every move. Varma, popularly known as RGV, who claims to be an NTR fan, wanted to make the biopic when actor Balakrishna, NTR’s son announced his intention to make a movie on the life and times of his father. However, Balakrishna did not accept RGV’s offer and went ahead with his own concept on the biopic.

RGV, known for his controversial films on Vijayawada goondaism and Rayalaseem factionalism, has earned the wrath of Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga’s son Radha Krishna when he filed a case against Varma. Similarly, Paritala Ravi and Maddelacheruvu Suri gang wars also drew the attention of followers of two groups raising political heat in the region.

Now, “Lakshmi’s NTR” is likely to generate a series of controversies as the producer of the film Rakesh Reddy happens to be a YSRCP leader. Even the clarification from RGV that there is no political colour to the film has not convinced the other camp.

With rumour mills running overtime on the concepts of the two biopic projects independently by Balakrishan and RGV, fans of NTR are waiting for the outcome of films. Besides Balakrishna and RGV, a lot of views have been exchanged on the proposed films by Lakshmi Parvathi, Jr NTR, Daggubati Venkateswara Rao, Teja and several others in the Tollywood.

Trying to convince the hardcore NTR fans, RGV recalled how he overcame hardships in getting ticket to watch NTR’s ‘Vetagadu’ several times in Vijayawada. Moreover, RGV had good rapport with the late Devineni Rajasekhar (Nehru) and Paritala Ravi who stood behind NTR and Lakshmi Parvati in the revolt by Chandrababu Naidu and team. Similarly, he also had good relations with film hero Mohan Babu. He discussed several incidents and movements with them in the past, according to sources.

Trying to understand why Balakrishna did not accept the proposal of RGV to direct the movie, a political observer said that the controversial director could focus on the events in NTR’s life that may not go well with the family, especially Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. TDP would react on the movie based on further developments and guidelines of top leadership of the party, said a senior TDP leader on condition of anonymity.
