Visakhapatnam: Vasantha Lakshmi, wife of slain rowdy-sheeter Gedela Raju, whose semi-burnt body was found in Sabavaram on October 7, alleged that Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Raju and assistant commissioner rank police officer were responsible for the murder. Bhupati Raju is editor and managing director of vernacular daily Kshatriya Bheri.

Talking to this correspondent here on Wednesday, Lakshmi said she has evidence of involvement of both the police officer and Bhupathi Raju who hatched a conspiracy to kill her husband. The case roots back to death of Padmalatha, daughter of former MLA of Paykaraopeta K Nookaraju.

Padmalatha had a prolonged affair with the police officer while he was working as circle inspector in Yelamanchili and lodged a complaint against him for ditching her.

Lakshmi said Padmalatha often visited their house after filing the case and always treated her husband as a brother. ``My husband knew how the police officer was making money from anti-social elements and involved in real estate settlements. The police officer conversation with a woman regarding Padmalatha’s death was recorded and landed in my husband’s hands,’’ she said.

Raju did a foolish thing to discuss about the voice clip to the officer’s trusted friends Raghu , Rohit, Bunk Srinu who passed on the information to the officer. Fearing Raju would blackmail him to extract money, the officer hatched a plan to kill him taking help from Bhupathi Raju, Lakshmi alleged. That Bhupathi Raju closed his press for two days after the death. Lakshmi suspected that they might have killed her husband in the same office.

“A day before the murder, Bhupathiraju called my husband for giving money and both went to Vijayawada soon after returning they kidnapped my husband and killed him’’ she said. Explaining the better side of her husband, Lakshmi said Raju believed in God and often helped the poor. He was responsible in getting employment to 50 boys and girls at VEPZ and shopping malls.

Raju also spent large amounts of money for charity and distributed assets to orphanages and blind schools. He donated refrigerator to a blind school at Narava village recently.
