Visakhapatnam: There is a mad rush of people lining for regularisation of encroached lands in the district. So far 26,000 people in the rural and urban areas of the district have submitted their papers. The GO No. 388 was issued on August 24 this year for benefitting more people.

  • 26,000 applied for regularization.
  • So far 46,526 pattas distributed in Vizag district

In the first phase, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu distributed pattas to 46,000 beneficiaries in two spells. One in last year and the second spell on July 26 this year. According to the revenue officials, regularisation will be free for BPL families up to 100 square yards and those above BPL have to pay 7.5 per cent of the basic value of land which was in 2013 for the same extent of land.

Beneficiaries have to pay 15 per cent for the land between 101 to 250 square yards and 30 per cent for the land between 250 and 500 square yards. Those having lands above 500 square yards would be evicted and the land would be auctioned. According to official revenue records, 18,000 from urban areas and 8,000 from rural area have applied for land regularisation under the GO 388.

The district administration has deployed private agencies for conducting ground-level survey for every application. Earlier, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu distributed 30,686 pattas in November 2016 and 15,840 on July 26 this year under the GO No 296. Now again the government has given opportunity to regularise above 100 to 500 square yards in the district.

Joint collector G Srijana said they conduct awareness campaigns on the GO 388 so that more people would be benefited. “We are expecting good response as our teams are conducting survey of land being claimed by the applicants,’’ she said. The last date for submitting application is December 31.
