Tanuku: Tension prevailed in Tanuku town following the removal of Dandi March statues from SCIM Arts College on Saturday night.
The earlier Congress government had installed statues of Dandi March to instill patriotism among youth.
Former Congress MLA Karumuri Nageswara Rao initiated efforts to install the statues in Arts college.
On Saturday evening, officials started removing the statues which included Mahatma Gandhi statue from the college premises.
Knowing about this, the YSRCP leaders and workers reached the college and objected to the removal of
statues.
The police reached the spot and arrested YSRCP leaders Sitaram, Abbureddu and another worker and shifted them to police station.
The people who gathered at the place also expressed protest. With this the police dispersed the people from the college area.
The officials stated that on Supreme Court directions they were shifting the statues to NTR park.
Tanuku is the third town to install Dandi March statues of ninenational leaders after Gujarat and Delhi. Thetensioncontinued late into the night.
