Visakhapatnam: The works on TU-142 aircraft museum is in full swing as Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation on October 17. This will be first of its kind in the country.

The project will be completed on December 7 and in all probability President Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate the museum. A naval officer said a decision will be taken on the President’s visit after a meeting with the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority next week.

The foundation stone laying has been advanced since the Vice-Admiral, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, HCS Bisht, will be retiring this month end.

Chief Urban Planner of VUDA V Bhavani Shankar said the project is being developed at an estimated budget of Rs 10.5 crore. Audio-visual system and front façade have been completed and the work is going on the interior. Initially, a ramp would be used for the visitors and later aerobridge would be added.

“Around 3,000 people will visit the museum every day. The same number of people visit INS Kursura Submarine Museum located in front of the aircraft museum,’’ Bhavani Shankar said.

After completing the first phase of TU-142, Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) will develop an Integrated Museum Complex comprising INS Kursura Submarine Museum, TU-142, Rajiv Smrithi Bhavan and Andhra University Auditorium. The project will cost around Rs 100 crore.

The Chief Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the flyover at NAD Junction on the same day. The rotary flyover, one of its kind in the country, will not have signals.
