A 14th century Bhairava sculpture has been unearthed in the suburbs of Kondaveedu Fort in Yadlapadu mandal of Guntur district while renovating a bund of a local tank. 

Vijayawada: A 14th century Bhairava sculpture has been unearthed in the suburbs of Kondaveedu Fort in Yadlapadu mandal of Guntur district while renovating a bund of a local tank.

The height of the historical idol is three-feet and width is two-feet and been carved of red stone. The sculpture is in standing posture with four hands holding Sula, Kapala, Khatramga and Dhamaru, said Dr E Sivanagi Reddy, Chief Executive Officer, CCVA on Sunday.

In a press release on Monday, he said the sculpture was delineated in the artistic style of the Reddy kings of Kondaveedu, said Dr Reddy. The idol was in the state of neglect when it was discovered. Sivanagi Reddy has appealed to the Department of Archaeology and Museums to safe guard it for posterity due to its significance.
