Visakhapatnam: Chairman, Andhra Pradesh State Brahmin Welfare Corporation Vemuri Anand Surya said here on Sunday that the Corporation has requested the government for release of Rs 200 crore funds to provide financial aid for various schemes including self-employment schemes. The Chairman said that the government already released Rs 210 crore in a phased manner in the past three years. The 2014 election assurance by the TDP was to set up a corporation to lead various welfare schemes for the Brahmin community with Rs 500 crore funds for five years, he added.

Attending the Brahmin “Ikya Vedika” an interaction programme with the Brahmins organised in the city, Anand Surya said that exercises were on full swing to strengthen the Corporation. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu positively responded to release Rs 200 crore funds to the Corporation, he added.

“The Brahmin community in the state has been looking for uplift in all sectors. The setting up of the Corporation is a big move towards the welfare of the community. As the community does not have any reservation, a large number of youth is looking for a helping hand to set up various self-employment units. In fact, thousands of poor Brahmins are not having ration cards and houses. The Corporation on several occasions requested the government to sanction ration cards and houses to the poor Brahmins in the state,” Anand Surya said.
