Jaipal likely to get Congress Working Committee post
Several senior Congress leaders from Telangana State are making a bid for posts of office-bearers in the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Elections to the posts of the AICC are scheduled to be held shortly.Â

Former Union Minister and senior party leader S Jaipal Reddy is aspiring to become a member in the Congress Working Committee (CWC), an apex decision-making body.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) is likely to recommend Jaipal Reddy’s name to enable him to become the member in the CWC. Top leaders in the TPCC are reportedly favourably inclined to make a move.
The TPCC has been asked by the party high command to recommend names of the party leaders to be appointed as members in the party’s national executive committee.
There is no representation in the CWC for Telangana State after K Kesava Rao migrated to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). There is, however, representation for Telangana State in the party’s executive committee.
Elections to the posts of office-bearers in the party committees are scheduled to be held in November. Congress leaders from the State are lobbying for posts in the party’s national committees.
According to sources, the high command has decided to offer a post of office-bearer to a senior leader from the State in the CWC and also appoint four senior leaders from the State as AICC secretaries and a senior leader as general secretary.
Apart from it, a post of official spokesperson too is also likely to go to a leader from the State. At present, G Chinna Reddy, Madhu Yaskhi and V Hanumantha Rao are AICC Secretaries.
The TPCC, which met recently, had authorised the high command to select names for national executive. As soon as new AICC President takes over, committees for various party bodies will be constituted. The names being recommended by the TPCC will be taken into consideration for appointment for various party committees.
According to sources, Jaipal Reddy’s name is in consideration for appointment as CWC member. Congress leaders in the State have decided to recommend the name of Jaipal Reddy because of his vast experience in administration. His experience would certainly help the party, said the party leaders.
The TPCC has been making all efforts to strengthen the party at grass-roots level before the Assembly elections which are just one-and-half year away. By ensuring that some senior leaders from the State are elevated to the national level in the party, the TPCC wants to send a positive message to the cadre.
There is a speculation that Ponnala Laxmaiah is likely to be appointed as AICC general secretary, D Sravan as official spokesperson. Madhu Yaskhi may continue as AICC secretary.
