Pithapuram: People of four villages – Gorsa, Yedukaluvalu, Komaragiri and Kottapalli – are facing many hardships to reach the nearest town on an urgent work because of the Pithapuram-Gorsa manned railway station gate. The villagers have been demanding modernisation of the railway platform here or construction of a flyover or shifting the railway gate to an alternative site.

The railway gate is close to the railway station and the train halting at the railway station extends up to the railway gate forcing the railway authorities to close the gate at the level crossing. Similarly, if a goods train were to halt waiting for the green signal, it would test the patience of the road users.

Women, children and students going to school are facing many problems because of the railway gate. The passengers are expressing their ire at the railway officials as the railway gate sometimes remains closed for hours altogether. Even ambulance transporting emergency patients to hospital has no choice but to wait for the gates to open.
