Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for country’s first double storeyed and rotary mode separator flyover at NAD Junction here on Tuesday.

  • Naidu says people have been waiting for this flyover for 30 years and their wish has been fulfilled now
  • This is a unique flyover which is double storeyed to allow smaller vehicles in the ground floor and heavy vehicles on the second floor. There will be no signals and pedestrians can easily pass through in any direction
  • Efforts are on to make Visakhapatnam, the finance capital of Andhra Pradesh

Addressing a public meeting, Naidu said the people have been waiting for this flyover since 30 years and their wish has been fulfilled now.

He said many flyovers were built in the country and some had defects leading to traffic snarls. But this is a unique flyover which is double storeyed to allow smaller vehicles in the ground floor and heavy vehicles on the second floor. There will be no signals and pedestrians can easily pass through in any direction.

The project was also designed for the convenience of the Metro Rail. “I will take the responsibility and see that the project is completed in 18 or 24 months,” he said. He said he has special attachment with Visakhapatnam city, hence, he came here to kick start the important project before flying abroad.

He said though Amaravti is the capital, efforts are on to make Visakhapatnam, the finance capital of Andhra Pradesh. The government is constructing large number of houses to make the city slum-free.

Vice-Chairman of Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority P Basanth Kumar said the flyover became immediate necessary as more than one lakh vehicles pass through the junction every day.
