Visakhapatnam: Mother and younger sister of Polireddy Nagaventaka Satyhavathi alleged that she did not die in the road accident but deliberately killed by her husband Ramana and his brothers.
Talking to the reporters here on Tuesday, the deceased mother Varahalamma and younger sister Ganga Bhavani in the presence of Mahila Chetana convener K Padma said Satyavathi (50) and her husband Polireddy Ramana (56), a loco-driver of South Central Railway, came to Purushottapuram village under S Rayavaram mandal on April 18 this year to participate in the village festival.
While returning to their home in Vijayawada, their car went up in flames and Satyavathi was charred to death. However, a passer-by broke open the central locking system of the car and saved Ramana. He suffered no injuries.
“We all believed it was an accident but after we came to know that Ramana was trying to sell the land and a house which was given as a gift deed to Satyavathi, we became suspicious.. People at Purushottapuram village are also talking about the incident and many said it was a pre-planned accident,’’ Varahalamma said.
Satyavathi’s younger sister Gangabhavani said when he came out of the car he was carrying his mobile and had slippers. ``It is not possible for an overweight person to come out so easily,’’ she said. Padma said Ramana told the police that Satyavathi was sitting next him while he was driving. But her charred body was found in the backseat.
``Police also failed to identify the person who broke the car lock and saved Ramana,’’ Padma said. She demanded that the police investigate the case afresh and identify the person who opened the car door and also question Ramana why he said his wife was sitting next him when she was burnt in the back seat.
It was revealed that Ramana drove an old car to the village festival when he had better cars. She demanded that the police should interrogate Ramana, which they did not soon after the incident.
