The agitators launched their indefinite fast on Sunday and it entered the 4th day on Wednesday. They have been demanding shifting of the Godavari Aqua Mega Food Park from Tundurru village in Bhimavaram mandal contending that it would pollute the water sources of delta area. As the indefinite fast entered the fourth day, Narsapur CI M Subba Rao came to the fasting camp and requested the leaders to withdraw their fast.

However, as the agitators rejected his plea, about 400 police personnel swooped on the fasting camp after midnight on Tuesday and forcibly lifted the activists and Anti Food Park Committee leaders and took them away in the police vans. The police admitted them in hospital.

They removed the tent, fans and chairs from the spot. CPM leaders JNV Gopalan and Alluri Arun protested against the police action. Seven fasting leaders and 14 peoples’ association leaders were arrested by police. Three were admitted to Narsapur government hospital and Palcole government hospital.

Meanwhile, after the arrest and shifting of the agitating leaders to Narsapur hospital, CPM State committee member Mantena Sitaram, CPM leaders Ch Babu Rao, Digupati Rajagopal and former MLA Mudunuru Prasada Raju went to the hospital to express sympathies with the agitators. After visiting the agitators at the hospital, the leaders condemned the police action against the fasting agitators and villagers.

The fasting women who were admitted to Palacole hospital have refused to take food and rejected treatment at the hospital. The police released CPM leaders Keta Gopalan, Alluri Arun, Javvadi Venkata Satyanarayana and others in the evening.

Later, agitators Areti Satyavati, javvadi Venkata Ramana, Chide Nagamani and D Kalyani withdrew their fast. YSRCP leader Gunnam Nagababu and others gave lemon juice to the fasting women to end their fast.
