Guntur: The Police Martyrs Day was observed here on Saturday at Police Parade ground and across the district. Minister for Civil Supplies P Pulla Rao said that police and soldiers are sacrificing their lives to maintain law and order and peace in the country.

Hence, it’s responsibility of the society to remember the martyrs’ services and government will lend a helping hand to the kin of police personnel who sacrificed their lives, he said.

District Collector Kona Sasidhar paid rich tributes to the martyrs and said that the society should remember the sacrifices made by the police. The district administration will extend whatever help the police department needs, he promised. Guntur Range DIG KVV Gopala Rao said that 383 police personnel lost their lives last year in the service of the country.

Urban Superintendent of Police Ch Vijaya Rao said that October 21 is being observed as the Martyrs Day across the country to commemorate the sacrifices of the departed soldiers and police personnel. In Guntur district, 25 police were killed while fighting against the Maoists said Rural Superintendent of Police Ch Venkata Appala Naidu. Later, all the dignitaries participated in the rally and paid tributes at the Martyrs Memorial. Eluru: The 58th Police Commemoration Day was observed across West Godavari district on Saturday. Police paid floral tributes to the martyrs.

In Eluru, Excise and Prohibition Minister KS Jawahar paid floral tributes to the martyrs at a programme held in the Police Parade grounds here on Saturday. He took the guard of honour from the Armed Reserve Police on the occasion. Later, he placed a wreath on the Martyrs Memorial and paid floral tributes.

Eluru MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao (Babu), Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan, MLC Ramu Surya Rao, Zilla Parishad Chairman Mullapudi Bapiraju, District Superintendent of Police M Ravi Prakash, Collector K Bhaskar also placed a wreath on the memorial and paid tributes to the martyrs. After the tributes at the Police Parade grounds, police took out a rally in the main streets of the city. SP Ravi Prakash flagged off the rally.

In Narsapur, police tool out a rally to commemorate the Martyrs Day and paid tributes to them. Narsapur DSP T Prabhakara Babu, CI M Subba Rao and police personnel participated in the programme.The police took out rallies and meetings in Polavaram, Bhimavaram, Kovvuru and paid tributes to the police martyrs.
