Rajamahendravaram: SC/ST Commission Chairman Karem Sivaji on Friday advised the tribal prisoners not to involve in ganja related activities like transportation, cultivation and keeping stock as they are serious crimes.

Inaugurating the plumbing course training to tribal jail inmates at Central prison here on Friday, he said many tribal youth are involving in ganja related cases with their innocence and asked them to restrain from these activities.

Karem Sivaji said there is no need to involve in such anti-social activities as the government was putting its endeavour for the well-being of tribal youth. “The commission will recommend to the government about extending legal assistance to the tribal remand prisoners.

At present, as many as 30 tribal remand prisoners are undergoing training in plumbing course, which helps them to earn a living lawfully after the completion of their imprisonment,” he said.

He advised them to avail their jail term to learn new trades to lead a peaceful and respectful life. Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Rampachodavaram project officer AS Dinesh Kumar said about 90 per cent of tribal youth belonging to Visakhapatnam and Rampachodavaram were involved in ganga related cases.

He said the ITDA would be ready to extend financial assistance to the tribal prisoners to take up any work after their imprisonment. Some tribal prisoners are under training in masonry and ITDA gives preference to them in ITDA works, he added.
