,Tirupati: Officials of the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) wrote a letter to the AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE), requesting not to include 5-year LLB course offered in LAWCET counselling which began on October 21.

It will be a blow to existing students and aspirants of law course from Rayalaseema region. Based on the letter, LAWCET officials excluded 60 seats of law course from the counselling. The SVU had started 5-year LLB and LLM at PG level in 2013.

The varsity has been running the LLB course without the Bar Council of India (BCI) recognition for the last five years as it failed to recruit teaching staff. The actual staff strength of the department is 12.

But, only one Assistant Professor is working on full-time basis. The recruitment of teaching faculty is pending with the APPSC.

The BCI has been denying recognition as varsity was unable to fill teaching posts.

The SVU is running the LLB course without BCI nod from 2013. The varsity officials felt winding up LLB course is the only option in the present circumstances.

SFI district secretary Madhav Krishna speaking to The Hans India said that future of 300 LLB students is in doldrums due to negligence of officials.

SVU Registrar Prof Devarajula Naidu told The Hans India that the varsity is helpless to run the course without BCI recognition.
