Visakhapatnam: Vizag Bird Watchers’ Society (VBWS) in association with eBird organised a workshop to create awareness among bird watchers about 'Global tools for birders, critical data for science', at Public Library here on Saturday.

eBird, an online platform, help the birders to record the data about the birds they see, keep track of the birds lists, explore dynamic maps and graphs, share sightings and join the eBird community and contribute to science and conservation.

As many as 50 members of the group participated in the session to learn about the collection of data about various known and unknown birds and putting up the same information online at eBird India portal. Ramit Singal of eBird India was the resource person of the session who explained in detail about the working model of eBird portal and the advantages of using it.

Vizag Bird Watchers’ Society founder said information gathering about birds in Eastern Ghats has not been explored as much as Western Ghats. “This workshop gave us insights about recording our observations on eBirds about the birds present in this region. Moreover, observations that are uploaded on the portal will be shared with global community of educators, land managers, ornithologists, and conservation biologists.”
