Ruling TDP leaders in the district are not giving priority to BJP in developmental activities from the beginning. Leaders of both parties are maintaining distance from each other and competing to claim credit for development and welfare activities.

TDP leaders are maintaining that the development is achieved due to its party president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. But BJP leaders are saying that it is possible only with central government funding.

Now controversy rose between both the BJP and TDP over HudHud houses. At Compost Colony in Srikakulam city, 192 houses constructed for HudHud cyclone victims of 2014 purely with thecentral government funds through its Calamity Prevention Agency.

Recently former minister and YSRCP state general secretary, Dharmana Prasada Rao conducted a protest rally with the party men in Srikakulam city and alleged irregularities in selection of beneficiaries for HudHud houses by neglecting actual victims of the cyclone. He chargedthat TDP local MLA and the party leaders collected money from the beneficiaries.

In supporting the YSRCP allegations, BJP Srikakulam city president, Ch Venkateswara Rao made allegations of irregularities in selection of beneficiaries. He charged that TDP has neglected BJP in selection of beneficiaries for the houses though they are being built with the central government funds. He demanded reveal of beneficiaries’ list. He questioned why the TDP leaders are remained silent in handing over houses to eligible beneficiaries for the last one year even after its completion.

TDP Srikakulam city unit president, M Venkatesh condemned the allegations. TDP leaders are unhappy with BJP allegations and suggested them not to resort these techniques to protect its existence. The strained relations between the allied parties may lead to separate contest in Srikakulam Municipal Corporation elections.
