Non-availability of movie tickets sparks stir, irregularities alleged

Eluru: The cine-goers staged a dharna at Ambica Theatre owned by Ambica Krishna, chairman of Film, TV and Theatre Development Corporation, alleging that the theatre staff attacked them for questioning them on selling tickets in the black market at the counter. They stopped the second show for quite some time until police reached the place.

The incident took place late night on Saturday when second-show was yet to start in minutes. Some DYFI workers and some cine goers went to the Ambica Theatre to watch the Movie `Raja the Great’.

The cine goers asked the booking clerk for the tickets, in turn, he replied that the theatre was house full. The youth alleged that the theatre management has sold out the tickets in the black market at the counter.

When some cinema-goers questioned this, the staff on duty reportedly attacked on the youth and abused them. With this, the youth and DYFI workers, who were in Eluru City to attend CPM City committee meeting, staged a dharna at the hall.

The police reached the spot and tried to convince the agitating youth. The youth replied that tickets were sold in black market even in the presence of police. Then the police asked the agitators to give complaint in One-Town police station. However, no complaint was made by the cine goers.

The CPM activists extended their support to the public at the theatre. The Hall Manager Venkateswara Rao intervened the agitators and told the youth that the staff did not attack them, but just want to prevent the youth from entering the theatre.

The one-town SI Ramakoteswara Rao told the agitating youth to make a complaint with the police. However, the youth did not complain the police over the incident and left the place.

When asked, theatre owner and AP film, TV and Theatres Development Corporation Ambica Krishna has said that he is not looking after the theatre affairs; and the manager and other staff are dealing with the affairs of the theatre.

When asked about the higher prices of the tickets, he said ``this has become a problem to theatre management also as the theatre managements are fixing their own rates which varies theatre to theatre.

I am going to conduct a meeting on Thursday in Vijayawada on the Cine Ticket rates with the distributors and exhibitors. In that meeting, we will decide a slab rates for the movie theatres uniformly.
