Ongole: The Subabul, jamail and eucalyptus farmers in Prakasam district launched relay hunger strike at the Collectorate here on Monday. The leaders of Andhra Pradesh Raitu Sangham, Jamail Subabul Raitu Sangham, Prakasam Zilla Abhivruddhi Vedika, Acharya Rangha Kisan Vedika, Raitu Koolie Sangham, farmer divisions of YSRCP, Congress and others also participated in the programme.

The CPI Andhra Pradesh joint secretary Muppalla Nageswara Rao, PZAV president Chunduri Rangarao, Nallamada Raitusangham president Dr K Rajamohan, economist Ramarao and others demanded, “The government should cancel the GO No 143, which has been causing damage to the welfare of farmers. The sale of wood should be done through the agriculture market committees and a revolving fund should be allocated to them as was in the case existed before 1999.

``The government should reconstitute state-wide pricing method and cancel the district based pricing; should fix the support price based on the market intelligence and expenditure occurred by the farmers in a transparent way. The government should initiate process to collect dues from the SPM company, which are pending for a long time. It should also take legal action on the employees of Bhadrachalam Paper mill, who helped in creating black money. The government should also establishing paper mill in the Prakasam district,’’ the leaders demanded.
