Ongole: The Ongole 1 town police received a complaint that about Rs 3 crore worth gold and diamond jewellery was stolen from a house when the owners went on a trip to Tirumala for darshan of Lord Venkateswara Swamy.

According to the information by police, Appala Koteswara Rao owns a petrol bunk in the town and finances businesses. He lives in Mahalakshmi Nilayam, an independent house near Enugu Chettu, behind Tata Buildings in Ongole.

He and his family members went to Tirumala about two days ago. When he returned on Monday evening, he found the doors of his house were unlocked and the wardrobes and safes were opened.

The valuables were stolen from the safe. On receiving complaint from Koteswara Rao, town DSP B Srinivasa Rao, One Town CI Md Firoz and SI Nayab Rasool visited the house. Meanwhile, the police identified that the thieves entered the house through back door by breaking the mosquito mesh at the door and opening the lock to the iron gate.

They opened the bedroom door with the help of iron rods and found the valuables in the wardrobe. The DSP pressed into service the clues and crime branch teams as part of investigation.
