National Boxing Championship tourney to commence in city today
Elaborate arrangements were made for second Elite National Boxing Championship, being hosted by Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) in association with Boxing Federation of India (BFI). The tourney will start on October 24 and concludes on October 30. The Boxing Federation of India assigned the responsibility to host event in Visakhapatnam.
Visakhapatnam: Elaborate arrangements were made for second Elite National Boxing Championship, being hosted by Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) in association with Boxing Federation of India (BFI). In the first Elite National Boxing Championship was conducted at Guwahati last year. Shri Shyam Kumar of Waltair Division of East Coast Railway bagged Silver Medal in 49-KG category in the championship last year wherein Indian Railways stood Runners-Up. The RSPB has a fleet of 3,000 active sport persons consisting of over thousand National and International medalists in 29 disciplines on its roll.
On the occasion, Divisional Railway Manager Waltair Mukul Saran Mathur and Secretary RSPB Rekha Yadav revealed details about the event here on Monday. In the event, over 350 players and approximately 800 delegates in total from 35 teams' representing different State Boxing Associations are participating in the present tourney.
In the 2nd Elite National Boxing Championship, other than the prominent international medalists of Indian Railways, the sports enthusiasts will witness the fierce bouts from Shiva Thapa, Arjuna awardee and Olympian from Assam, Satish Kumar, Asian Games medalist from SSCB, Naman Tanwar, Youth World Champion Bronze medalist from Haryana and Gourav Solanki, Youth World Champion Silver medalist from SSCB.
