Eluru: Water Resources Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao lamented that the Opposition has no moral right to speak on Polavaram Project. Addressing the media at Polavaram Project site on Monday, the Minister said that the earlier governments have not taken any interest to take up Polavaram Project construction and after the TDP came to power in 2014, the project works have been speeded up.

YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has provoked five States to file petitions against the Polavaram Project construction. The Opposition leader Jaganmohan Reddy who is an accused in 13 CBI cases has no moral right to talk on the Polavaram Project, he said.

He pointed out that during the earlier Congress government, they did not get even the seven affected villages evacuated and no proper compensation was paid to them. He pointed out that the TDP government has enhanced the compensation from 1.3 lakh to 11 lakh and implementing better relief and rehabilitation package which led to smooth execution of the Polavaram Project works.

He pointed out that the earlier government left the Thotapalli Reservoir works incomplete and after the TDP came to power it was completed and named after Gowthu Lachanna. The Minister said that a meeting with Central and State Water Resources engineers would be conducted in Amaravati on October 25.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu before embarking on foreign tour, met Central Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari and explained to him the ongoing works and the importance of the Polavaram Project for over 90 minutes, he added. The Central Minister has positively responded on the Project, he said.
