Vijayawada Municipal Corporation on Monday slashed the rent  of the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram. After renovation during the Krishna Pushkaralu last year, the civic body enhanced the rent of the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram. Due to increase of rents, demand for Auditorium drastically declined during the last one year.

Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation on Monday slashed the rent of the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram. After renovation during the Krishna Pushkaralu last year, the civic body enhanced the rent of the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram. Due to increase of rents, demand for Auditorium drastically declined during the last one year.

Small educational institutions, NGOs and cultural associations are not able to pay the high rent charged by VMC for the last one year. City Mayor Koneru Sridhar convened a meeting on Monday with corporators and officials and decided to slash the rent.

For hosting cultural programmes, the VMC used to collect Rs.50,000 rent for full Day. Now the rent has been reduced to Rs.20,000 for full day and Rs.10,000 for half Day. For Government programmes, the old rent was Rs.70,000 per full Day. Now, it reduced to Rs.50,000 for full day and Rs.30,000 for half day. For commercial use the revised rent for full day is Rs.80,000 and Rs.40,000 for half day.

Earlier, the VMC collected Rs.1.20 lakh for full day. Caution deposit (advance payment) has been revised from Rs.40,000 to Rs.50,000 for full day and Rs.25,000 for half Day. It is reimbursed later. But, Sanitation charges increased from Rs.2000 to Rs.12,000 for full day and Rs.10,000 for half Day. Corporators and VMC officials attended the meeting on Sunday.
