Visakhapatnam: Chairman and Managing Director of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) P Madhusudan said that RINL was focusing more on producing special steel and value added steel with the introduction of new technologies in the mills. Accordingly, strategies are being drawn up to improve the RINL market share in the special steel segment across the country, he said.

Inaugurating the All India Special Steel Customers Meeting at the Ukkunagaram (Visakhapatnam Steel Plant’s township) called by the marketing department of RINL here on Tuesday, Madhusudan said that the special steel could play a significant role in the present market conditions in improving the brand image and would contribute in enhancing the bottom line of the organisation.

The RINL chairman said that the RINL has now started emphasising on improving the efficiency and ramping up of production from the expansion units to achieve cost competitiveness. The company completed the modernisation of existing units with the blowing-in of Blast Furnace-2 (Krishna) and now the RINL would fare better during the current financial year with the operation of all the three blast furnaces, Madhusudan said.

While welcoming the customers, Director (Commercial) of RINL P Raaychaudhury mentioned that the meeting was aimed to cement the relations with the special steel customers and carry forward the business further in special steel segment in the country. He said that RINL is working to meet the requirements of special steel customers to improve the market share in the country.

Director (Operations) P K Rath said that RINL was expecting to produce over 20 percent of special steel of total production and was all set to improve the performance significantly in the present fiscal. ED (works) OR Ramani and General Manager (Marketing) SK Chakrabarti also spoke.
Customers of Special Steel from the automobile industry, Indian Railways, general engineering from across the country took part in the meeting and later interacted with the officials in connection with the products and their requirements.

Later, the customers were taken around the major production units and Steel Rolling Mills and they interacted with senior officials at the site.
RINL - special steel RINL is planning to produce one million tonnes of Special Steel in the current fiscal. RINL has already rolled out spring steel and spring steel flats for the first time in 80X16 size.

RINL has started producing low alloy steel from structural and special bar mill. High carbon wire rod sales increased to around 15,000 tonnes per month and started producing low carbon cold heading quality (CHG) grade from Wire Rod Mill-2. The Special Steel products of RINL would largely cater to the needs of automobile industry, Indian Railways and general engineering.
