Amaravati: The marathon exercise relating to the designing of iconic structures in Amaravati, AP state capital, appears to have reached its logical end after a long wait.

The latest designs finalised by the architects of the UK firm Norman Foster+ Partners have at last got the nod of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during an interaction with the architects of the Norman Foster on Wednesday.

As per the latest designs, the secretariat will come up with five towers. Ministers’ chambers, offices of chief secretary, principal secretaries and secretaries will be accommodated in five towers category wise. Another tower will be exclusively built for the CM, Chief Minister’s Office and General Administration Department.

An official communiqué said the CM okayed the designs of high court. The designs relating to government complexes have come to a near completion, the communiqué said.
Noram Robert Foster, head of the firm, appraised Naidu of the nitty-gritty of the designs along with a demo.

According to sources, the revised designs are up to the CM’s satisfaction vis-à-vis their reflection of nativity, historical backdrop of Andhra and aspirations of people of the successor state.

It may be recalled that the designs of the firm were discarded sometime back as they were out of CM’s taste, forcing the premier agency to add some modifications to the architectures matching with the Naidu’s suggestions.

SS Rajamouli, Tollywood director and “Bahubali” fame, was deployed to liaison with the architects and see that the CM’s taste and expectations were reflected in the modified designs.

Rajamouli was currently in London along with the CM’s entourage. The world leading architecture firm sketched two designs for each iconic building by factoring in modifications as suggested by CM and film director, said a senior official.

The Chief Minister was said to have laid his focus mainly on designs of the Assembly building. Chandrababu told Robert Foster on Wednesday that five crore people in AP are eagerly waiting for materialisation of the capital designs so as to let the dream of building Amaravati as one of the five best cities in the world take wings at the earliest.

The Singapore’s Maki and Associates was initially engaged by the AP government as master architect for the capital designs. It however backed out after failing to satisfy the CM which made way for the entry of the UK’s agency.
