Giddalur: Baya Weaver belongs to Ploceus Philippinus species is a bird that can be found in Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It can be called as a wild but intelligent yellow sparrow. The male bird builds the nest at the extreme end of the branch of a thorny tree or palm fronds.

The male weaves the nest with grass and mud, provides cushion to the eggs and displays to the female in the neighbourhood. When a female approves the nest and agrees for courtship, the male finishes the nest by adding a funnel like entrance from below the nest.

The abandoned nests will be occupied by other birds. In villages their number is dropping very fast and in towns and cities they are almost disappeared. These Gijagadu nests are now seen in Nallamala forest area near Giddalur on the Nandyala highwway.
