Ongole: Minister for Panchayat Raj & Rural Development and Information Technology Nara Lokesh asked the officials in Prakasam district to work on war-footing and complete the pending infrastructure projects in the district by 2019. The Minister conducted a review meeting with the district officials of PR&RD and RWS departments and participated in the sarpanches meet and explained the Seven Stars Formula for the development of villages.

In the review meeting with the officials, Lokesh emphasised the importance of completion of major infrastructure in the villages and requested them to cooperate with the government. He ordered the officials to prepare village budgets, including need of CC roads, buildings for panchayat and Aanganwadi Centres.

He asked them to prepare a water budget for the villages and take measures to increase ground water levels. The Minister set deadline up to November 30 to complete the construction of toilets and announce the district as an open defecation-free district.

He also put the same date as deadline to construct dumping yards in all villages and issue RFID cards to households to register waste collection every day. He said that dengue and malaria can be eradicated when the waste is properly managed.

He promised support to the officials and asked their cooperation to complete major infrastructure projects like CC roads in all villages, underground drainage system in major panchayats, tap water connections to every household through water grid by 2019.

He said that he will not hesitate to change the non-working officials and asked them to develop the state as a role model. In the meeting with them, the sarpanches asked the Minister to reduce the burden of electricity charges amounted to Rs 1600 crore on village panchayats and appoint sarpanches as persons-in-charge for panchayats.

Lokesh explained the seven-star formula introduced by the government and said that installation of LED lights, vermicompost centre, Aanganwadi Centre, CC roads, playground to school, underground drainage system, construction of surface water tank, grow trees will be taken up under the programme in every village.

He explained that the vermicompost centres also will earn a lot of revenue to the panchayats. Similarly, each family will be provided gas connection, toilets, drinking water connections and an income source of Rs 10,000 under the formula.
