Guntur: The urban police arrested five criminals, who were involved in several cases, and recovered ornaments worth Rs 7.5 lakh and a stolen car worth Rs 8 lakhs from their possession here on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police Guntur Urban Ch Vijaya Rao said that two criminals from Dindigal district in Tamil Nadu and their accomplice from Visakhapatnam were involved in a car theft on October 10.

The three accused are criminals and were imprisoned earlier. On a tip-off, the Guntur police arrested Marimuttu, Rajapandy from Dindigal district of Tamil Nadu and Lakshmana Murthy from Visakhapatnam while they were trying to sell the car in Ongole on Thursday.

In another case, the crime police arrested Tonda Posamma and recovered gold worth Rs 6 lakhs from her possession. Posamma used to steal valuables while travelling in buses, autos and snatch the valuables, including purses and handbags.

The Flower Market police took her to the station while she was moving under suspicious circumstances. She confessed to her crimes during the interrogation and handed over the stolen gold ornaments to the police.

In third incident, Namburi Mariyababu, who was involved in temple thefts, was arrested by the city police. A number of temple theft cases were pending against him and finally police arrested him and recovered silver items belonging to four temples in the city. Urban superintendent of Police congratulated the Tadikonda, Old Guntur police and CCS-1 team and DSP P Srinivas.
