Dwaraka Tirumala: In a macabre incident, four persons including three children, charred to death and another woman received burn injuries at Veerisettivarigudem village of Kamavarapukota Mandal in West Godavari district on Thursday.

According to police, Ketha Nageswara Rao, a peasant at Veersettivarigudem village used to give talisman to villagers. His second wife Ketha Lakshmi (30), her first husband’s daughter Aparna (11) and Nageswara Rao’s daughter Lavanya (5) and son of her sister-in-law Manikantha (13), her sister-in-law Pitani Rangamma were residing in the house of Nageswara Rao.

On Thursday morning, a fire broke out in the house. Seeing the fire, the neighbours tried to rescue them. However, the gas cylinder in the house exploded, eyewitnesses say. In this incident, Ketha Lakshmi, her daughters Aparna, Lavanya, sister-in-law’s son Manikantha charred to death on the spot. The victim’s sister-in-law Pithani Rangamma received severe burn injuries. The neighbours called the ambulance which shifted Rangamma to Eluru Government hospital. Chintalapudi Circle Inspector Rajesh and his team visited the spot.

Meanwhile, West Godavari district SP M Ravi Prakash also visited the house where the fire broke out. The police clues team searched the burnt house. The team has found a petrol tin, Sandals and a broken blinker of a motorbike and recovered those articles. Meanwhile, the relatives of Ketha Lakshmi alleged that Nageswara Rao and his first wife’s son Nagaraju are behind the incident and they are responsible for the deaths of four persons.

They allegedly told the police that Nageswara Rao used to quarrel with Lakshmi in recent times and got married a third time to another woman. After this marriage, he started harassing Lakshmi, they alleged. The SP Ravi Prakash, who inspected the place told media that a suspicious death case under Section 174 IPC has been registered in Tadikelapudi Police station.

He said that four persons including three children were charred to death in the incident. On the allegations of the relatives of Ketha Lakshmi, the police will investigate in that angle that the husband Nageswara Rao (55) and his first wife’s son Nagaraju (25) might be the culprits. “We will take those suspects into custody and interrogate them. We do not leave anyone if found guilty”, SP said.

Meanwhile, Pithani Rangamma, the Sister-in-law of Ketha Lakshmi who was admitted to Eluru Government hospital with severe burn injuries is undergoing treatment. Her condition is said to be serious. Her husband was in Kuwait on employment, police said. Eluru Government Hospital Development Committee Chairman and MLC Ramu Surya Rao visited the hospital and directed the doctors to extend better medical treatment to Rangamma.
