Mixed reaction to the move
Majority of the people are welcoming the YSR Congress Party’s decision to boycott the Assembly session demanding the MLAs, who switched over their loyalties to TDP after electing on YSR Congress Party ticket, to tender resignation to their posts.
Visakhapatnam: Majority of the people are welcoming the YSR Congress Party’s decision to boycott the Assembly session demanding the MLAs, who switched over their loyalties to TDP after electing on YSR Congress Party ticket, to tender resignation to their posts. However, some people said that instead of boycotting the sessions better to fight in the Assembly exposing how the ruling party was encouraging defections.
“They were elected on YSR Congress Party ticket, it means they have to follow the party’s policies and agenda. Hence, turn coats, should quit their posts. I am welcoming the YSR Congress Party’s decision,” opined VVSN Murthy Raju, systems operator of a Ship Designing Company.
“The Opposition party MLAs should raise the voice of the people in the Assembly. Hence, they should not boycott the session. The President, Governor and courts should take action against the defectors,” said PSRV Sastry, a teacher.
“I opposed the YSR Congress Party MLAs joining the TDP and four of them being inducted into the Cabinet. But YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s decision to boycott the Assembly sessions is not correct. As there are members in the Assembly, the government can pass resolutions sans objections. Meanwhile, the Speaker should take a decision in this regard and save democracy,’ Raju, realtor, opined.
YSRCP MLAs reaction
Supporting the YRSCP’s decision to boycott the Assembly winter session, the party MLAs said in unison that it’s a great step to save the democracy in the state. The Governor and President are not taking action against the MLAs who were elected on YSR Congress Party ticket and joined the TDP for their selfish motives, said Paderu MLA Giddi Eeswari and Madugula MLA Budi Mutyala Naidu.
“The government sent a wrong message by giving Cabinet berths to the four defected YSR Congress Party MLAs. Opposition is the voice of the people but step motherly treatment is being meted out to it in the House. If the party boycotts the session, the nation would notice how democracy is being degraded,” Giddi Eeswari told The Hans India.
Srikakulam: Turncoats should be disqualified, demanded YSRCP Palakonda and Rajam MLAs V Kalavathi and K Jogulu. It is unethical for the MLAs, who won on the YSRCP ticket and joining the TDP for their political gains, they lamented.
Vizianagaram: Kurupam MLA P Pushpa Srivani, too, echoed the same opinion and questioned how can the government induct the defected MLAs into the Cabinet?
