Tirupati: To make Chittoor district a good tourist destination, the Tourism department was formulating many plans. Making use of natural attractions and advantages, several projects were implemented. One more such project will be soon coming up in Ramakuppam of Kuppamconstituency, which is Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s home turf.

Administrative sanctions were cleared to set up Nanyala Eco-Tourism project with an outlay of Rs2 crore andthe DFO will execute the works. Under this project, Deer Park, Bird enclosures, Jungle Huts, Environmental Education Centre, Crocodile Park, Children Park, Elephant Ambari, Cafeteria were the main attractions among others. Another Rs75.76 lakh were earmarked for development of Bapuji park and Gundu Bavi in Palamaner.

These works were entrusted to Greening Corporation. Landscaping, pathways anda garden will come up under the project. They are also organising mega crafts mela in the first week of November for four days at SV University’s Tarakarama Stadium. About 70 stalls from various places are expected to be established in the mela and Rs3 crore budget was allotted for organising the event.

World Spiritual week for three days and DHOOL (Rural Sports and Games) for five days will also be held in Tirupati. An amount of Rs2.5 crore was allotted for each of these two events. All these were state-level events and will be held before March 2019. VIBRI Media will conduct these events, said the District Tourism Officer DV Chandra Mouli Reddy.

Speaking to The Hans India, he disclosed that in Kuppam constituency, development works with Rs30 lakh each at Mallappa Konda and Gudivanka (Subramanyeswara Swamy temple) were taken up and almost completed. Pongal sheds and toilet blocks were built at those places for the convenience of pilgrims. In Horsley Hills, gardens were developed with Rs27 lakh to attract tourists. The Gangireni Tank in Chittoor was developed to make it a beautiful spot. A total of Rs72 lakh were spent for these works.

However, the proposal to build an aquarium with Rs80 lakh as a tourist attraction was not grounded so far. It was proposed in 2016-17 budget and AP Education Welfare Infrastructure Development Corporation (APEWIDC) was entrusted the works. The fisheries department must look after the project and to be established at their site opposite Mahati Auditorium in Tirupati. Works are expected to start soon, said Chandra Mouli.

He said the development proposals relating to Chandragiri fort were pending as the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) wants to undertake them on their own. However, Tourism department has spent Rs2.70 crore towards installing mast lights for sound and light show.

District Collector PS Pradyumna has shown interest to take up developmental works at the Fort andhe recently convened a meeting with Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Tourism department and other officials. As the ASI prefers to take up the works, the district officials have no role to play for now.
