Vijayawada: CPM state secretary P Madhu and party state committee members opposed the government’s decision to convert 29,000 rations depots into village malls. Speaking to media persons here on Friday, they said that the party would stage protests across the state from November 1 against the move. They alleged that the government initiative was to benefit private corporate companies.

If the state government implemented this policy, then ration cardholders would have to approach the corporate companies for essentials. Taking a strong exception to making changes in the public distribution system (PDS), the CPM leaders said that the system would completely lose its importance and poor sections would lose their right to PDS if the government goes ahead with the proposal.
