Kurnool: The Mantralayam police took a woman and her husband into custody duping people promising jobs. According to CI D Ramu, Gadi Raghavendra alias Nagendra and his wife Gadi Lakshmi Devi, of Mantralayam, had collected Rs 20,000-30,000 each from about 80 unemployed people promising jobs in public and private sectors.

The couple after collecting the money provided fake jobs to a few youth at Raghavendra Swamy temple. Their job is to monitor the persons selling tickets at the counter from a distance, whether the tickets are being issued with seal or not and whether coconuts are sold at higher prices. After noticing the process, they have to report the discrepancies to Gadi Raghavendra. They are paid Rs 8,000 per months.

The couple tried to make this as a real job so that the youth employed like this would bring in more gullible aspirants. The duo planned to flee after collecting huge amount from maximum number of people. However, their attempt was foiled as some victims employed at temple realised that the jobs were fake and reported to police “We have registered a case and took them into custody.

During the investigation, we came to know that the couple had also cheated several other people at Kowthalam and Kosigi villages. Actual number of victims and the money collected will come to light after a thorough investigation,” the CI said.
