Puttaparthi (Anantapur): Central Crime Station police on Friday nabbed an accused in the gold and silver ornaments theft case pertaining to Godess Sathyamma temple here which took place on January 25.

The police zeroed in on the accused based on finger prints collected from Sathyamma temple at the time of the robbery. The police since then had been on a hunt for the jewellery robber. The accused Chandrasekhar of Vengalamma Cheruvu village was a lorry driver and was used to luxurious living. He had visited the temple several times and eyed on ornaments ofdeity idol.

On January 25 night, he broke opened the temple gates and decamped with jewellery that the idol was decked with. The police nabbed Chandrasekhar at Nagepalle village on Karnataka border in connection with another theft case.

Finding that his finger prints matched with temple theft, the police concluded that he was the robber of goddess ornaments. The accused is also said to have confessed to the crime. Circle inspector Anjaneyulu and SI Venkatesh Naik were instrumental in nabbing the culprit.
