The motivation campaign conducted by Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) to make people of three villages of Tirupati rural mandal to construct individual household latrines (IHHL) was completed and a total of 195 toilets were built.  

Tirupati: The motivation campaign conducted by Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) to make people of three villages of Tirupati rural mandal to construct individual household latrines (IHHL) was completed and a total of 195 toilets were built.

The staff and students of the Department of Social Work, Women studies, Economies and Law of SPMVV in co-ordination with the Gram Panchayath staff, DRDA and MGNREGS of Chittoor conducted the motivational campaigns in a phased manner from October 4 to 26. It was taken up at three Gram Panchayaths – Vemuru, Panakam, and Brahmanapattu to make them free from open defecation.

They have explained the villagers about the measurements prescribed by the State government to construct each latrine. An amount of Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 shall be paid to each individual household latrine.

Accordingly, 136 IHHLs in Vemuru panchayat, 38 in Panakam and 21 Brahmanapattu village were completed. The final status report was submitted by the Director, University Community Engagement of SPMVV Prof K Murugaiah, to the District Collector at Chittoor. He appreciated the support extended by the authorities of SPMVV to attain the goals of Swachh Bharath Mission.

Vice-Chancellor Prof V Durga Bhavani appreciated the move and entrusted the responsibility of identifying the X and Inter passed out girls from these adopted villages to impart skill development training from Deccan Education Society at its Renigunta Centre for absorption of 100 per cent trained girls into Celkon company.
