Tirupati: Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama here has celebrated Sister Nivedita’s 150th birth anniversary on Saturday.

Sister Nivedita was a renowned disciple of Swami Vivekananda, who sacrificed her life for women education, India’s freedom and Indian culture and tradition. On this occasion, they conducted a symposium for college students on its premises.

Nearly 250 students from various colleges in and around Tirupati have participated in the event. Swami Prajanathanandaji sang bhajans. Swami Anupamananda, in his welcome address mentioned the contributions of Sister Nivedita and her association with Ramakrishna Mission. Director of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati, N Satyanarayana Raju participated as chief guest.

A Natarjan of Bapatla and Adinarayana from Kadiri delivered speeches on Sister Nivedita. N Krishna Mohan, Dr Leelavathi, Dr GS Prasad, Chengaiah Chetty and G Sridevi also took part. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the symposium.
