Srikakulam: Tribal Museum will be set up at Sitampeta Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) headquarters to reflect culture of Primitive and Adivasi tribes.

The Museum would be developed as a tourist centre to attract people from across the district and state as well. The state government allocated Rs 1 crore funds for it as an initial investment and ITDA project officer Lotheti Shiva Sankar is planning to start the museum initially at the Project Monitoring Resource Centre (PMRC) at Sitampeta.

The museum will reflect culture, traditions, customs and tenets of the tribals of the agency. Details of different sects of tribes across the world, India and Andhra Pradesh would be displayed in the museum.

Along with it, life style, utensils, which are being used by tribes, hunting method, mode of cultivation, articles used by them in different stages, sequence of tribal culture in chronological order and details of different sects of tribes would be displayed in the museum in the form of photos, wax dolls, idols made of clay, paintings, writings, evaluation of man from ancient period to modern age.

Out of Rs 1 crore, Rs 50 lakh would be used for re-modelling of the existing PMRC building and another Rs 50 lakh would be spend for interior design of the building. The ITDA officials are planning to establish Tribal Museum on the lines of a museum for tribals situated at Bhubaneswar in Odisha.
“The museum at Sitampeta will cover all aspects relating to tribes and it will definitely attract people of other parts”, said ITDA PO L Shiva Sankar.
