Vijayawada: Noted social activists and Ramon Magsaysay awardee Sandeep Pandey felt that suicides among the students can be prevented by banning corporate educational institutions and tuition points in the state.

He expressed concern over the recent suicides of students in the state. He addressed a seminar on ‘Suicides in corporate colleges-government failure and remedial measures’ conducted at Makineni Vignana Kendram here on Sunday.

The social activist Sandeep Pandey alleged that the corporate educational institutions are functioning with only objective of earning money and ignoring the problems of the students. He felt that the education system in state has been ruined due to mushrooming of corporate educational institutions and these institutions have made very bad impact on education system in state.

He pointed out that education system has been badly affected due to globalisation and liberation. He underlined the need to promote and develop non-corporate educational institutions in the state. He demanded that the government immediately scrap the ranks system.

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President N Raghuveera Reddy demanded that the government take the responsibility for the deaths of students in the educational institutions.

He demanded that Ministers P Narayana and Ganta Srinivasa Rao be sacked from the Cabinet. He felt that the suicides of students would not stop until the two Ministers are removed from the Cabinet.

He alleged that the government had failed to streamline the education system and check the activities of corporate educational institutions in the state. The Andhra Pradesh Editors Association has organised the seminar.

Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Medical College principal Dr PSN Murthy, noted psychiatrist Dr RK Ayodhya, Congress leader Kolanukonda Sivaji and others expressed anguish over the suicides of students and stress experienced by the students due to defects in education system.
