Guntur: Minister of Social and Tribal Welfare N Anandababu said that the government would build permanent buildings for 20 gurukul schools with an estimate of Rs 20 crore. Speaking to media persons, he said that the buildings would be completed by January 2018.

He said that the State government had sanctioned Rs 9,000 crore under the sub-plan for the welfare of SCs and Rs 3,400 crore for the benefit of STs. He said that earlier the government had released Rs 19,500 crore for a period of three years for SC/STs welfare.

The Minister said the tribal hostel students would be provided desks with a cost of Rs 16 crore and the tenders were already called for the same. Rs 60 crore was allocated to social welfare schools in the district, he added.

Two pair of uniform will be given to hostel inmates in the schools of Agency area and Rs 18 crore were sanctioned for supply of clean drinking water and to construct additional rooms in all gurukul schools, Rs 84 crore would be spent, he explained.

Under `Adivasi Arogya’ Scheme, nutritious food would be provided to all 1,56,000 tribal students and training would be given to 30 students to climb the Mount Everest, the Minister said. Apart from that 22 lakh of mosquito nets would be supplied to tribal students and 2,000 kilometres of road from tribal hamlets will be linked to main roads, he explained.
