Amaravati: Agriculture students staged a protest at the Secretariat on Monday against the cancellation of GO No 64 which gives eligibility for employment to the candidates who studied in universities and colleges not recognised by the Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR). The state government cancelled the GO on September 6 on demand of students of Acharya NG Ranga Agriculture University.

Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan supported the students and even thanked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and agriculture minister S Chandramohan Reddy for cancelling the GO 64 and said it was a great relief for the students.

However, students from various colleges and universities came to the Secretariat on Monday to meet agriculture minister and staged a dharna.
One of the students, K Mahima Rekha said the cancellation of the GO was a gross injustice to the students who studied in universities and their affiliated colleges.

“There are around 30,000 students who completed agriculture B.Sc. in AP. The state government released a notification on September 12, 2002 stating that all Agriculture B.Sc., students who studied in the colleges recognised by the University Grant Commission (UGC) are eligible to appoint as agriculture officers as the ICAR is not a government recognised organisation,” she said.

“Due to pressure from some politicians and agitations of the agriculture students who studied in the university that have recognition of ICAR, the government took the decision to cancel the GO,” she said. The students demanded restoration of the GO and allowing all agriculture students for government jobs. Some students met minister Chandramohan Reddy and submitted a memorandum.
