Visakhapatnam: The tribal community of Visakhapatnam Agency on Monday condemned the arrest of Bakuru Koteswara Rao and demanded the government release him unconditionally.

The rural police arrested Koteswara Rao branding him as Maoist activist and actively involved in the recent cell tower blast at Darakonda of GK Veedhi mandal. Bakuru Koteswara Rao was presently in the Visakhapatnam jail as remand prisoner.

Koteswara Rao is an active leader in Andhra Pradesh Girijan Sangham and raising his voice on various issues in the Agency. The police registered false cases on him and arrested. Earlier also the police arrested him in Vijayawada, but failed to prove any allegation on him.

To create panic like situation among tribals, the police are registering false cases on innocent tribals. Koteswara Rao never committed any offence against the government and police, former MP and president of Andhra Pradesh Girijana Sangham Midium Baburao said.

The police habituated to arrest innocent tribals and AP Girijana Sangham leaders because of Maoist activities in the Agency. In fact, Koteswara Rao actively involved in various service activities of the tribals including conducting medical camps in seasonal fevers.

He also unearthed the scam in the MGNREGS irregularities. The police called him for an inquiry and arrested him. The government should immediately release Koteswara Rao, Baburao demanded.

AP Girijana Sangham leaders including its secretary P Appalanarasa and A Santhi and G Satyanarayana met the in-charge collector G Srijana and gave a representation for the release of Koteswara Rao.
